So no running, elliptical, biking for him for six weeks. Makes training for a marathon a little difficult. We’re looking at getting passes to the RecCenter nearby so he can swim laps to maintain some cardio.
Last week was full of fail. In regards to exercise at least, the week
was great in terms of social life. I’m not entirely sure what happened… I
have a few ideas but they would just be excuses.
check! I did 20 minutes to warm up on the elliptical. Then did leg
work. My legs were sore! Not as badly as my arms the week before but they
were sore until Thursday. Tuesday:3 miles
(AM) & Bikram Yoga (PM) - 2.51 miles in the morning but
decided to hang out with Roswell since I had happy hour on Wednesday and
yoga on Thursday. Wednesday:4 miles (AM) Lesson learned. For right
now, with strength on Monday, I need rest. Also on days following yoga from
6:15-7:45, I cannot get up at 4:15 the next morning. I just can’t. Thursday:4 miles
(AM) & Bikram Yoga
(PM) - got both workouts done. Yoga was awesome, really great. Friday: Rest Saturday:8 miles yeah, I did the one thing they
tell you not to do while marathon training. I skipped my long run. I wasn’t
sure how this weekend was going to work out. I knew I had my volunteer
final exam on Saturday morning so most likely, the long run wasn’t
happening. I decided that it would be better to not stress and just move it
to Sunday. Well, Saturday night Roswell surprised me with Rascal Flatts
tickets. We had a blast but didn’t get home until 1AM… Sunday:4 miles & Bikram Yoga - getting home at 1AM
meant not waking up early enough to get out and run… and then I just gave
up essentially. I didn’t know what to do so I did nothing. I don’t really
know but I was in a funk all day on Sunday. Hopefully I’ll snap out of it

time we fall." Confucius
Monday 6/25: 3 miles & Boot Camp Tuesday 6/26: 4 miles (AM) Wednesday 6/27: Bikram Yoga (PM) Thursday 6/28: 10 miles (AM) & Bikram Yoga (PM) - taking the day off
to clean because my big is visiting this weekend! I figured I would get my
long run done early so I wouldn’t have to worry about it this weekend. Friday 6/29: 4 recovery miles (AM) Saturday 6/30: 3 miles (if possible) Sunday 7/1: Rest - volunteer transition training
When: Saturday, July 28th @ 8:00AM Where: Burke Lake Park in Fairfax Station (
and then over to my
apartment for breakfast if you wish!
You’re more than welcome to come for either parts - the majority ruled
in favor of 9 miles - but if you’d like to join us for just 1 loop (4.5
miles), we can aim to meet halfway and you can join us for the second loop
(very convenient running in circles).
Erica & Emily (and anyone else for that matter) - I know that both of
you expressed interest in running on 7/7 or 7/8 - if you’re still
interested, I’d love a few running buddies. I have 12 miles planned for 7/7
and 4 miles planned for 7/8.
In all of my preparation for the new school year that is still a decent way off, I made a DonorsChoose project. It’s asking a lot. If you know of anyone who loves giving to students, please let them know of my project!
I’m sure I’m not the only one who has heard of some of the attacks that have happened to some female runners this year so far, so I thought it would be appropriate to make a post regarding running safety. My parents gave me this pepper spray last night, and I always have my road ID on me. I…
This reminds me, I need to buy pepper spray. I’ve been running in the mornings and I always stay where the streetlights are and always turn around if I feel uncomfortable. I carry a knife with me but let’s be honest, that can easily be taken away from me. I was heading out the door this morning, Roswell said that he really needed to show me how to use that knife. I am always nervous running though - but I prefer running when it’s 65° rather than 90+° like it will be later in summer.
I would love to host the DC Do Lifers in July for a run around Burke Lake and breakfast at my apartment in Fairfax. Please let me know what you think and reblog and share!
I wish I could go to this! Only a few problems:
1) I’m not DC. Stupid 3 hours.
2) I’m not really worried about #1, except for the fact that if they did it at 7AM I would be leaving my house at 3:30. Ew. Although, with the train…
3) Smallest loop: 4ish miles. HA. Let’s just laugh at that.
OK, so #3 is really the only hardcore obstacle. But it’s kind of big when you’re working on being able to run a mile withut walking…
We’re always flexible! We can always do less intense - everyone is at a different spot in their training/progress. We just want to have fun! And I have a futon you can crash on if you want to come up the night before (as long as you’re not an axe murder that is :) ).
PS fill out my survey! I’ve heard from Erica, Emily, Avi and Katie. Anyone else want to join us? Jess, Rachel, Alicia, Liz?
Monday: Strength - was supposed to be group training, but now
just may be me! Tuesday: 3 miles (AM) & Bikram Yoga (PM) Wednesday: 4 miles (AM) Thursday: 4 miles (AM) & Bikram Yoga (PM)? Friday: Rest Saturday: 8 miles Sunday: 4 miles & Bikram Yoga
I’m trying to not let my unlimited yoga pass go to waste, so I’m trying to
include Bikram as much as I can, but it’s hard to promise myself two-a-days
for multiple days a week. We’ll see!
I’m happy about how the week turned out. I didn’t get all of my workouts
done, but I did very well and feel good about what I did do - and that’s
what matters right?
Monday:Group Training - check! My arms were wrecked after this
workout, I’m still feeling lingering soreness. Tuesday:3 miles
(AM) & Bikram Yoga
(PM) - check! I don’t think the yoga helped my arms - it may have in
fact made them worst. It was incredibly awkward bending my arms to do
anything on Wednesday. Wednesday:4 miles (AM) & Strength (PM) - Decided
on a rest day to give my arms a chance to recover. Thursday: 3 miles (AM) - check! 3.7 miles to be
precise. Friday: Rest - check! :) Saturday:7 miles -
check! Another beautiful long run. These make me happy to run. Sunday:3 miles -
check! & Bikram Yoga slept in a bit and didn’t make to
yoga but did have a great run with Roswell on the Cross County Trail.
Total: 17.26 miles and 6 workouts total. I’m happy with this. :) 131 days
til the Marine Corps Marathon!
that I plan on training being on Monday and make plans for another day, is
the week that we have to reschedule to the one day that I have plans
involving friends. It’s like the universe works against my schedule and my
attempt at work/training/social life balance. Does the universe not want me
to have friends? I’m already embarrassed enough that my phone died on
Friday and I missed meeting up with Avi (which I’m truly truly sorry about,
Avi, and am mortified…). Ugh.
Another great long run - 7 miles on the W&OD. I love the 65°-70° weather. It’s really perfect for running for me. Roswell & I split a chicken quesadilla and fresh squeezed lemonade at the Vienna Farmers Market after the run. What a great morning.
I’m heading back into the city now to do one more museum tour and my last day of volunteer training. :)
I’m thinking of hosting a DC Do Life breakfast in July - run at Burke Lake then breakfast at my apartment? I’ll put together a poll later but if there are any dates that are unavailable for you, let me know!
Thats a tough one. As a man, I’ll give my perspective. He’s between a rock and hard place. You dont want to have to ask him for the chips each time but you said you have no self control and want him to help :0)
True. I totally will agree with you on that. I did tell him though that I could control myself with the chips. And this wasn’t the first bag we had in the apartment and he didn’t hide those chips. That was a few months ago - I only bought the recent bag to go into trail mix for our hike.
It was mostly his reaction. Like we were talking about more than the chips but he wouldn’t tell me what it was.
Roswell and I just got in a fight… about chocolate chips. Not exactly the chocolate chips themselves but that’s what started with. It’s funny because of all of the posts I’ve been reading today, by Avi and Liz and several others.
In the past, I’ve asked Roswell to hide candy, chocolate particularly, because I have no self control and end up eating a majority of it in one sitting and not feeling so great about myself. There’s a reason why we don’t buy certain things for the apartment. I’ve been better though, and I recently bought a bag of dark chocolate chips as a treat. I’ve done this before and managed good self control, having only a small amount of chips as a treat every so often. Rather than eliminate something I enjoy, I enjoy in moderation. Well, Roswell thinking that he was helping, hid the bag of chocolate chips from me. It actually didn’t upset me, but I have to ask him when I want some and that is a little demeaning. I’d even mentioned a few times that I know that I didn’t have will power when it came to chocolate, these chips were good to practice with and I had done pretty well before. Coming home today, I wanted a few chips before going on a run. He basically asked why but ignored my request. So I was a little upset and I told him I was embarrassed to have to ask him when I’m an adult and can make my own choices. IT’S FREAKING CHOCOLATE CHIPS.
He got upset that I was upset. And he seemed like he was really angry at me. He says he wasn’t, that he never meant for me to feel belittled and demeaned, like he was controlling me. But he was so angry. So I told him that he should just go running without me and he responded angrily “I was planning on it.” What did I do that solicited that type of response?
I realize that I don’t have self control with certain foods. I don’t buy them anymore. I don’t buy pop-tarts, chips, cookies, candy. It’s easier with some things to just go cold turkey, without temptation. But I’ve gotten to the point where I realize that I’m better without those things and I don’t want them anymore. I just think that I can make my own decisions and my own mistakes. How else am I going to learn?
I liked this question: Do you like the type of music your parents listen to? Do your parents like the type of music you listen to?
I do actually. I grew up listening to country with (because of?) my parents. In middle school, I went through the phase of wanting to establish my own identity and started listening to the top 40 station and said I hated country music. In high school, I started listening to more alternative/punk music but also started listening to country again and I found I missed it. So my music taste is very eclectic, ranging from broadway musicals to folk and country to even some rap. I always made fun of my music taste by citing the fact that I had Anti-Flag sitting next to Avril Lavinge in my CD case (so I alphabetized my CDs… my movies are the same way).
As for my parents liking the type of music I listen to, I don’t think they would care what kind I listened to but most of the time if I drive any where with them, I would put country on in the car just to make them more comfortable.
Are you aware, of how much you complicate me?
And are you aware? Your words suffocate me.
And don’t deny, you’re talking behind my back to your friends
And don’t deny, one day you’ll need me, need me.
All my life I’ve been looking for the answers,
to the questions you never asked.
And we never planned on this disaster.
When will I let it go?
”—New Found Glory, This Disaster
PS. Roswell & I are fine - I listened to a lot of New Found Glory in high school (in fact, I still refer to them as my favorite band even though I don’t listen to them as often as I did). I was listening to my iPod on the way home the other day with a lot on my mind and you know when your iPod picks the perfect music to match your mood or what your thinking. This song started playing and it was exactly what I needed to hear. Sometimes your vision can be clouded by being so close to a situation and you can’t quite see clearly. But I know this is something I need to let go, it’s just a matter of when.
The Marine Corps Marathon is officially 145 days away! This
is the base week of training before the 20 weeks of the schedule. PS:
MCM10K registration is official open - come hang out with the cool
kids on the mall.
Monday:Rest… apparently. Tuesday: 3 miles - check! Completed at 4:30 this morning - the
first mile was waking up, after that it was pretty good. Wednesday: 4 miles (AM) & Strength (PM) Thursday: 3 miles (AM) Friday: Rest Saturday:JDRF
5K Walk (AM - I’ll miss you guys at the Do Life 5K - HAVE FUN!) &
Twilight Four Miler (PM) Sunday: Bikram Yoga
I think I can stick to this schedule. Waking up and running wasn’t
nearly as hard as I thought it would be (that could be because I went
to sleep when it was still light outside last night. no joke) - I was
only a little terrified when Roswell asked me if I was taking my knife
with me… “just in case”. I may need to invest in some pepper spray,
just for the peace of mind. Have a wonderful week everyone - Happy
I’m not sure why. My back hurt, I would get pain down the outside
of my right leg when running, I was in funk, nothing seemed to click.
Until Saturday. It was BEAUTIFUL on Saturday and the run was
